Alpha Gamma Rho believes in giving back to the community in which it is a part of. Throughout the year, AGR is involved in many different philanthropies. The cause of choice for the Alpha Zeta Chapter is the fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Our commitment to this cause is done in memory of Brother Sewell, an Alpha Zeta alumnus who passed away from this disease.
Our primary philanthropic activity for this is the Sell-A-Fella Auction. An auction area is set up behind the chapter house and ladies from across Kansas State University are invited to come and bid on the gentlemen of Alpha Gamma Rho. Brothers purchased at this auction are then required to either purchase or prepare dinner for the buyer at a time determined between the two. The auction is a fun way for the house to raise money for cystic fibrosis research and remember Brother Sewell.
In the fall semester of 2023, we kicked off something new – the Alpha Gamma Rhodeo Week. It was a whole week filled with fun activities like the cowboy car wash, the Alpha Gamma Rhodeo at the fairgrounds, and even a mechanical bull riding competition. What made it even better? All of the money we raised during that week went straight to Growing Hope Globally. It is their mission to link the grassroots energy and commitment of rural communities in the U.S. with the capability and desire of smallholder farmers in developing countries to grow lasting solutions to hunger.
Alpha Gamma Rho is also a sponsor of many agricultural events. We are an active supporter of the annual AgFest activities put on by the College of Agriculture. Our participation in this week includes volunteering at activities for students and faculty and supporting the philanthropy it selects each year.
We are proud of our support of the Kansas FFA Association, as we allow the Kansas FFA Officers to stay in our chapter house free of charge during the annual convention.
